The Social problem FUTECO Addressess:
Young people in Manica have always been facing difficulties in making smart decisions and choices for their lives. Schools in the district, Hospitals, Community leaders and government departments have been trying to address the issue but with no significant achievements. Social exclusion, school absenteeism, gender inequality, malnutrition, unemployment, child abuse, domestic violence, alcoholism, malaria, unprotected sex and poverty are all problems faced by our young people.
Our Theory of Change: Young People in Manica have the freedom to choose the type of life they want to live.
Young people in Manica need to discover their abilities and capabilities to be able to follow choices of their dreams. What is viewed as normal life here is a youth to grow, marry and have children, all depending on subsistence farming. This means that telling a young person that he/she should go to school, learn and become a teacher, a doctor, a nurse etc is not motivational enough because that does not fit the life pattern lived here. Young people do not see life in a competitive way. There is little hope in them. Our programmes are designed so that they evoke the hunger in young Manicans to better their lives by making opportunities visible before their eyes. The choice thereafter is up to them. We discourage the system of JUST following a life-pattern.
